How To Increase System Power

Two or more batteries can be easily connected to boost your system's voltage and/or capacity. There are three methods to obtain additional voltage and or capacity, as described below:

To increase voltage, connect batteries in series.

Battery System: 12 Volt, 225 AH
Using Two Deep Cycle Batteries
( 6 Volts, 225 AH)

To increase amp-hour capacity, connect batteries in parallel.

Battery System: 6 Volt, 450 AH
Using Two Deep Cycle Batteries
(6 Volt, 225 AH)

To increase both voltage and amp-hour
capacity, connect batteries in series/parallel.

Battery System:12 Volt, 450 AH
Using Four Deep Cycle Batteries
( 6 Volt, 225 AH)

Example 1:

Constant Power Load

Nominal 24 Volt (12 Cell) System

Load:1150 Watts
Backup Time:4 Hours
Minimum String Voltage: 21 Volts
Minimum Cell Voltage: 21 ÷ 12 = 1.75 volts per cell
Four hour discharge rate per cell to 1.75 VPS (from table): 32.8 watts
Four hour discharge rate per string:32.8 x 12 = 394 watts
Number of strings required: 1150 ÷ 394 = 2.92

Results:3 strings required to meet the load.
